After the announcement of the pilot to extend access to Clapp Library to 24×7 for the Spring semester, LTS continued to receive feedback from the campus community. Based on this feedback, consultation with the Advisory Committee on Library and Technology Policy, and further discussions, we plan to extend Clapp’s hours to no later than 2am, the closing time of most of our peer libraries.
The Spring 2013 hours represent a 16 hr/wk increase over our Fall 2012 hours, including staying open later on Friday night, and opening earlier on Saturday and Sunday. On Sunday-Thursday, from 10pm to 2am, Clapp doors will be locked and Wellesley students, faculty, and staff will be able to swipe into the building using their OneCards. All of the additional hours will be staffed.
We will be gathering usage data throughout the spring semester as well as implementing new safety and security strategies.
We know this will be a disappointment to students who were anticipating using the building at any time and we sincerely apologize for the premature announcement.
