Since 2012, graduating students have kept their Wellesley College Gmail account, which includes Google Drive (Docs), Calendar, Sites, and Groups. The College recently extended domain accounts and Google Apps for Education accounts to all alumnae. This account gives alums access to a single login across all systems and provides an email account that alums will be more likely to use after they leave Wellesley, making it easier for the College to stay in contact.

This has been promoted to alums as a Wellesley College email account in Gmail, which again, includes access to Drive, Calendar, Sites, and Groups. This means all alumnae have an address such as username@wellesley.edu.  Although the alumnae have @wellesley.edu email addresses, they behave slightly differently than the rest of the faculty, current students and staff email addresses. Alumnae names and email addresses do not automatically appear when you begin typing their names. We have chosen not to have them “autocomplete” to avoid confusion.

However, when you share any of the files stored in your Google Drive, you need to exercise caution if you decide to share by choosing “Wellesley College – People at Wellesley College can find and access”. This setting allows all alumnae to be able to find and access your document since anyone with an @wellesley.edu address can access the document.

We strongly advise you to choose specific people wherever possible to share documents in a more controlled way.

Since alumnae are part of the campus community in Google, they will also have access to Google Groups that are open to “All organization members”. Access to Google Groups is set in Permissions for the group:
