Several of our users continue to fall victim to phishing attempts by hackers. We will soon be writing to you about how Wellesley will be taking advantage of a “two factor authentication”, a safeguard against such attempts. In the meantime, we ask you to be diligent about these messages. Once the hackers have your password, they can potentially access your private information including salary and benefits. During the past year several institutions, including some Boston-area universities, were hit with a phishing scam that used the collected username and password to change direct deposit information.
Remember: No in the URL = No login! Don’t trust the site, and do NOT enter your username and password if you do not see this sign.
Also, there are phishing emails circulating with the subject line: “Failure to comply may result in the loss of your account within the next 24 hours.” The email says that you have exceeded your storage limit.
We no longer have storage quotas in Gmail, so ,obviously, you cannot exceed the quota! If you get an email telling you that you have reached your storage limit, you can be sure it is phishing. Don’t click on any links in the email!
