From: Ravi Ravishanker, CIO and Associate Provost
Hope you all had an enjoyable summer and are energized and ready for the start of another academic year. We in LTS are excited to be back in the renovated Clapp Library and can’t wait to see you coming to the library and benefiting from all the programmatic changes. As I wrote in my earlier email, given the complexity of the renovation, there is still some unfinished business which will be continuing, but with minimal disruption to those who are in the library.
We are sending highlights from a longer and more detailed document here. Please make sure to read the detailed document.
Highlights:
-
Clapp Library will open on September 2: The renovated library is ready for you. As we continue to re-shelve 700,000 books, we ask for your help. If you find a mis-shelved book, please let the staff at the Service Desk know or email askus@wellesley.edu.
-
Brightspace is here: Brightspace, our new Learning Management System (LMS), is now available. For the fall semester, Sakai will still be available for all courses. Students: Your professors will inform you which system they will be using for each class.
-
Secure AI tools for employees: To provide secure access to AI, we are launching Amplify AI on September 2 for all employees. This platform offers access to ChatGPT and Claude AI without using your interactions for public model training. Training sessions for faculty and staff will be announced soon.
-
OneCard services have moved: All OneCard services (new and replacement cards) are now managed by the LTS Helpdesk in Clapp Library, Rm 320.
Action Required:
-
Cybersecurity training: All faculty, students, and staff are required to complete the annual SANS Cybersecurity Awareness Training as soon as possible. A phishing test will be conducted this semester.
-
Windows 11 upgrade: To maintain security, Microsoft is ending support for Windows 10. All College-owned computers must be upgraded to Windows 11. After October 14, Windows 10 devices will lose access to the secure campus network.
-
Faculty with 2025 graduates: To prevent data loss, please ensure any shared work from graduated seniors is moved to a shared drive owned by you before their accounts transition on October 6.
For more details on these topics—plus information on equipment checkout, Google Photos, Zoom updates, and updating your office location—please refer to the full announcement document.
We are excited for a great semester and look forward to supporting you.
