Some quick updates as we bid a fond farewell to Spring 2011:

Websites on the www.wellesley.edu server will be moved this summer into Drupal, our new open source CMS (content management system). The tool is very popular in higher ed and easy to use — we will be communicating with website owners throughout the process (more info).

You can now create a Lynda training profile to track your training history, earn certificates, and bookmark. Lynda has a huge online video tutorial library and is available on and off campus (more info). We would also love your feedback on training so we can make the best use of our funds.

We plan to have email “aliases” for all users by mid-September in Google Apps (e.g.,  firstname.lastname@wellesley.edu, preferredname.lastname@wellesley.edu, etc.). Subscribe to the Google Apps for Education blog and you won’t miss a thing!

This summer, you’ll be able to search across all library resources, including multiple library databases, using Summon, a new research discovery tool. Summon is the ideal tool for the increasingly interdisciplinary environment in which researchers work. Watch for Summon, give it a try, and let us know what you think!

Windows 7 continues to roll out; it will be in classrooms and labs for the Fall semester and desktop upgrades are available on request (more info).

LTS is hosting the Twelfth Annual New England Technical Conference on 6/7. The conference is attended by senior technical folks from 25 local Banner schools. It’s said to be the place to learn more in one day than at a week-long national conference!

Wired connections in the res halls are “end of life” and replacement would cost $200K. Only a handful of students use a wired connection; we are making sure they will be able to adequately connect.

This Fall, we are partnering with CTS to offer reasonably-priced, convenient hardware repair services to students and the community. Stay tuned!
