Coming on Monday…

1. A new look for MyWellesley
Features a reorganized Home tab with new sections for Gmail that automatically refresh every 2 minutes, and Faculty-Staff Announcements / Discussion that refresh every 10 minutes. New icons in the upper right provide quick access to Google, Sakai, Web Help Desk, and Banner ERP. We’ve also added a section for Google Docs and a Library tab to provide access to library services, as well as your 16-digit account number. (The illustration below will differ from what you see, depending on what you can access.)

2. Improvements to the Directory
You can view the beta version now. Great new features include one-screen access to location and full phone number (use your mobile device to call!), sorting by column header, search for multiple departments (hold down Ctrl while selecting), from search results, click the Department or Dept/Major to get a full listing, and a tab for reporting changes. Please note the link for feedback!

3. Email “aliases”
If you’re a Gmail user, you’ll receive an email on 10/17 about new aliases that will go to your existing email address. firstname.lastname@wellesley.edu is one option, as is an untruncated last name (example: vbrandstrader@wellesley.edu). More info

4. Longer timeout on MyWellesley
You will be logged out of MyWellesley after 3 hours of inactivity, instead of the current half-hour inactivity logout. When you launch Sakai and Google Apps (Gmail and Google Docs) from MyWellesley, they have their own timeouts — 2 hours for Sakai and Google Apps do not have any timeouts. Similarly, if you are a Banner ERP or Discoverer (used for accounting/personnel processes) user, they have different timeouts. It is essential to sign or log out when you are done using these tools — closing a browser window is not sufficient! If you have multiple Google Apps open (Gmail, Calendar, Docs, etc.) you may need to sign out for each. The 3 hour timeout only applies to your office computer or connecting through VPN. Classroom computers are set to timeout after 30 minutes of inactivity. Since MyWellesley contains highly sensitive personal information, we advise you to lock your computer if you plan to be away from it for a length of time.  More info on signing/logging out.
